Obituary: Dr. Walter J. Mellgren Sr.

Dr. Walter J. Mellgren Sr., age 97, of West, passed away early Thursday afternoon, December 4, 2014 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.

Walter was born October 6, 1917 in Tombstone, AZ, the son of Lt. Col V.G. and Jeanne E. (Kenen) Mellgren. He attended schools in Tombstone and was a 1935 graduate of Poly Tech High School in Long Beach, CA. On April 6, 1944 he was united in marriage to Mary Halbert in Waco. Walter joined the United States Merchant Marines prior to his service with the Air Force-Army Air Corp. He served during World War II in the Berma China Theater as a Staff Sergeant and head of the Military Police.

Upon his discharge, he attended the Texas Chiropractic College in San Antonio graduating in 1948. He started his practice in West in 1948 and built the Mellgren Chiropractic Clinic in West in 1961, serving there for 45 years before retiring in 1995. Mary was always by his side in his endeavors and was his assistant for 17 years.

Shark Attack Suspected in Missing Longview Chiropractor’s Disappearance

Dr. John Petty, 63, a Longview chiropractor "known for award-winning photography often done on high-adventure trips around the world,”  went missing Sunday, July 13, 2014, was likely the victim of a shark attack.  

The Coast Guard suspended its search for Dr. John Petty, 63, after dive gear believed to belong to Petty was found. Petty was last seen Sunday, when he was the only one of eight divers who failed to return to a commercial shark dive vessel during an expedition near Grand Bahama island.

Comanche, Texas, July 4th Fireworks EXPLODE During Set up Killing Doctor

One person was killed and three others severely injured on Thursday afternoon when a truck carrying Fourth of July fireworks detonated outside a central Texas high school as workers prepared for the show.

Dr. Russell C. Reynolds, a chiropractor in Comanche, was killed in the explosion. Three others were injured, with at least one rushed to the hospital by helicopter.


Longview Chiropractor Dies in Wreck; Children Injured

A Longview chiropractor was killed Saturday in a wreck that left three children hospitalized.  Thomas Eynon D.C., 43, of White Oak died after he lost control of his Chevrolet Avalanche on U.S. 271 just south of FM 16 in Smith County.  

The accident happened just after 12:00 p.m. Saturday, on Highway 271 just south of FM 16.Smith Co.  Trooper Jean Dark notes that 43-year-old Thomas Bernard Eynon of White Oak was behind the wheel when his Chevy Avalanche possibly hydroplaned and crashed into a parked 18-wheeler on the side of the road. Eynon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Obituary: Monte Bill Oliver D.C.

Dr. Monte Bill Oliver, a resident of Eufaula, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 66. He was born September 12, 1947 in Waco, TX to Wilburn W. Oliver & Evelyn (Deyo) Oliver.

Monte served during the Vietnam Era as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed his time as a medic while stationed in Korea.

His experience in the Air Force carried on with him and helped foster a love for caring for people. He became a chiropractor and always treated every patient with the highest quality of care. He served as a chiropractor in Ft. Worth, Texas in the early part of his Chiropractic career. He worked with Dr. Rice, Dr. Denton James and others in Ft. Worth. He later accepted an associate doctor position with Dr. Schultz in Azle, Texas.
