February was a short month, but it didn’t feel that way. TCA was hard at work putting on TCA Legislative Day and the Texas Chiropractic Legislative Conference while, at the same time, conducting the business of chiropractic during the 86th Texas Legislative Session.

For those you who made the trip to Austin for TCA Legislative Day, thank you! Our theme was “Show Your Love for Chiropractic!” and you did, big-time. In all, 500+ chiropractors, students and faculty from Parker University and Texas Chiropractic College, staff and chiropractic supporters joined us at the Capitol. Not a bad turnout for Valentine’s Day!

But TCA Legislative Day wasn’t just about numbers. The quality of the 165+ meetings was outstanding and, because of your connections, we were able to educate legislators about chiropractic and generate valuable support for pro-chiropractic legislation. Since then, we’ve been able to lock down sponsors for nearly all of bills. Stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks!

The second Texas Chiropractic Legislative Conference – or TCLC, as we call it – was awesome. The speakers and sessions were top-notch. A big thank you to the sponsors, exhibitors and attendees who made TCLC a success. Congratulations to Dr. Gregory Johnson, who won the TCA Chiropractic Trailblazer Award, and our keynote speaker Ret. Staff Sgt. Shilo Harris, who was recognized with the TCA Chiropractic Advocate Award. Both are richly deserving of the accolades!

If you missed TCA Legislative Day or TCLC, check out the video on the Texas Chiropractic Association YouTube Channel. We hope to see you there in 2021!

Now that March is here, TCA’s legislative team is working behind the scenes to move our legislation through the Senate and House. Meanwhile, TCA filed a petition for review with the Texas Supreme Court to overturn the TBCE & TCA v. TMA decision rendered by the Third Court of Appeals. What’s the lawsuit about? Only the future of chiropractic, specifically your right to treat nerve-related conditions, including the subluxation complex. You’ll find out more information on the TCA website and in this issue of Texas Chiropractic e/Source.

What allows TCA to do what do is you, our members. Your membership dollars – and your donations to the Chiropractic Development Initiative (CDI) – give us the resources to fight for the profession we love so much. If you’re not giving to CDI, make a one-time contribution online or call the TCA office at (512) 477-9292 to get on monthly autodraft or become a 100 x $100 CDI donor.

With everything at stake, now is the perfect time to get involved with TCA. If you know a colleague who isn’t a member, encourage them to join today. Reach out to the TCA office and we’ll follow up.

As TCA Legislative Day illustrated, Texas chiropractors can pull together and tackle any challenge in front of them. TCA is here for you, the chiropractic profession and your patients. Thank you for being part of it!
