The Texas Department of Insurance–Department of Worker’s Compensation regularly holds training seminars and webinars across the state.

On August 15, Texas Workers’ Compensation 101 for Health Care Providers and Staff will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at America’s SBDC @ TX Tech, 749 Gateway St., Ste. 301, Abilene, TX.   

This seminar covers:

  • Identifying a workers’ compensation patient and verifying coverage;
  • Utilization Review - prospective, concurrent, and retrospective review of medical necessity;
  • Return-to-work and the DWC073;
  • Medical bill processing and fee guidelines; and
  • Processes for resolving disputes.

This same seminar will also be held September 19, from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA) Small Business Development Center,  501 W. Cesar E. DWC offers free, monthly webinars covering some of the administrative processes related to providing health care to Texas workers’ compensation injured employees. The webinars are one hour in length.  

On September 5, from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. TDI–DWC will hold the webinar Determining Medically Necessary Health Care.

This webinar focuses on the utilization review process for determining medical necessity when preauthorization and concurrent review of health care is requested, and when a medical bill is being reviewed.  Health care practitioners and medical office staff are invited to attend.
