Dr. Shelby M. Elliott has died at age 89.  He was found Wednesday morning, August 19.  

The Official History of Chiropractic in Texas states “Texas’ chiropractors have been blessed with doctors possessing extraordinary ability in the field of politics. … Among these men were … Dr. S. M  Elliott of Dayton…. “  

He is  perhaps best known as the twelfth president of Texas Chiropractic College from September 1990 through December 2003. Dr.Elliott became one of the pre-eminent leaders along with men like the Palmers, Jo Janse, and Jim Parker in bringing Chiropractic to the respected status it now holds.

The viewing will be held Friday, August 21 at Rosewood Funeral Home, 3999 Pasadena, Blvd., Pasadena from 5-7:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held  Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 7500 W Fairmont Pkwy, Pasadena, TX 77505.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests making donations to Texas Chiropractic College or First Baptist Church of Pasadena Building Fund.

Dr. Henry Kenneth Ford after 98 years of life that included military service, bringing chiropractic relief to the distressed, a man’s love of his family and joy to those he called friends has shed the earthly bonds of this life for eternal peace and happiness. Dr. Ford passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2015 at Briarwood Manor Care Center in Bellville.

Dr. Curtis Wayne Gonstead, 80, of Beloit, WI, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born June 26, 1934, in Madison, WI, the son of Dr. Merton J. and Emma M. (Meyer) Gonstead. Curt was a 1956 graduate from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. After serving two years in the US Army, he returned to Monroe, WI, in 1958, and joined his father in practice at the Gonstead Chiropractic Clinic. They moved the clinic to Beloit, WI, in 1965.

Dr. Walter J. Mellgren Sr., age 97, of West, passed away early Thursday afternoon, December 4, 2014 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.

Walter was born October 6, 1917 in Tombstone, AZ, the son of Lt. Col V.G. and Jeanne E. (Kenen) Mellgren. He attended schools in Tombstone and was a 1935 graduate of Poly Tech High School in Long Beach, CA. On April 6, 1944 he was united in marriage to Mary Halbert in Waco. Walter joined the United States Merchant Marines prior to his service with the Air Force-Army Air Corp. He served during World War II in the Berma China Theater as a Staff Sergeant and head of the Military Police.

Upon his discharge, he attended the Texas Chiropractic College in San Antonio graduating in 1948. He started his practice in West in 1948 and built the Mellgren Chiropractic Clinic in West in 1961, serving there for 45 years before retiring in 1995. Mary was always by his side in his endeavors and was his assistant for 17 years.

Shark Attack Suspected in Missing Longview Chiropractor’s Disappearance

Dr. John Petty, 63, a Longview chiropractor "known for award-winning photography often done on high-adventure trips around the world,”  went missing Sunday, July 13, 2014, was likely the victim of a shark attack.  

The Coast Guard suspended its search for Dr. John Petty, 63, after dive gear believed to belong to Petty was found. Petty was last seen Sunday, when he was the only one of eight divers who failed to return to a commercial shark dive vessel during an expedition near Grand Bahama island.
