HHS MD Secretary Claims Opioid Abuse Not a National Emergency

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tom Price, MD said the Trump administration could effectively battle opioid abuse without declaring it an official national emergency, a step recommended by a White House commission on the epidemic.

TBCE TEN: Guidelines for DC’s Considering Employment

The TBCE is implementing changes pursuant to recently passed legislation that will impact DC’s working within non-DC owned facilities. As of September 1, 2017, the TBCE will no longer register facilities. This means that facility owners will not be required to renew/register a facility, report ownership interests and otherwise keep their information current with the agency. The TBCE, however, maintains the authority and responsibility to regulate all aspects of chiropractic services within a facility, including billing for services and the maintenance of patient records. With this in mind, the TBCE offers the following ten guidelines for DC’s who are considering potential employment within a facility and entering into related business agreements.

Chiropractors Offer Evidence-Based Care for Back Pain

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) and chiropractors nationwide will observe National Chiropractic Health Month (NCHM) this October by sharing information on back pain prevention and the value of a conservative approach to treatment with the theme “Back to Basics.” For more than 30 years, ACA’s annual public information campaigns have aimed to help the public reach optimal levels of health and wellness via natural health promotion and injury prevention strategies, and by highlighting chiropractic's safe, non-drug approach to pain relief.

House Passes Restrictions on Some Malpractice Awards

Non-economic damages in medical malpractice cases would be limited to $250,000 nationwide under a bill passed by the House.  H.R. 1215, known as the Protecting Access to Care Act, passed by a vote of 218-210. It would cap non-economic damages in medical liability cases at $250,000 in states that have not set a limit. (In those that already have their own caps, theirs would prevail.)  

The act, which would apply only to cases involving services covered wholly or partly by federal insurance programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, would also:
