Texas Chiropractic Association Endorses Senator Bob Deuell

The Texas Chiropractic Association, the largest professional association representing Texas' 5,000+ licensed Chiropractors, announced its endorsement of Sen. Bob Deuell for reelection to the Texas State Senate, District 2 in Austin today.

Legislation would ban state GMO labeling measures

A bill introduced Wednesday would put the federal government in charge of overseeing the labeling of foods with genetically modified ingredients, preventing states from enacting their own requirements to regulate the controversial ingredients.  The legislation, known as the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act, would require the Food and Drug Administration to review the safety of a product before it enters the marketplace, putting into law a process that is currently voluntary but widely used by food companies. The health agency would require mandatory labeling on food with genetically modified ingredients if they are found to be unsafe or materially different from foods produced without biotech ingredients. Manufacturers could still label their foods as being made without these specially engineered crops.

President Signs ICD-10 Delay

President Obama signed HB 4302 that delays the planned ICD-10 implementation.  This bill prohibits CMS from enforcing a mandate to switch from ICD-9 to ICD-10 until Oct. 1, 2015. 1
 
At this time, the law ONLY affects Medicare claims.  It is still unclear whether insurance companies will mandate the usage of these codes or not. 2
 
Regardless of whether ICD-10 is delayed or not, it is best to learn the ICD-10 codes as quickly as possible. Check our ICD-10 Training Session scheduled at the TCA Convention. 3
