Chiro Texpo ’18 is officially over and, if you weren’t able to join us last weekend at the Hyatt Regency Dallas, you missed an incredible TCA state convention. Each year, the event gets better and better and it’s because of you. Any time TCA members get together at an event, there’s great energy. If you haven’t been to Chiro Texpo before, come and see for yourself.

I wanted to share a few of my personal highlights from Chiro Texpo ’18:

1) President’s GalaDr. Max Vige, our TCA Immediate Past President, knows how to throw a party. Great food and camaraderie! Congrats to all of our award winners, particularly the 2017-18 Keeler Plaque honoree Dr. William E. Morgan and our Young Doctor of the Year Dr. Don White. Both men have given their hearts and souls to TCA. From the moment he came on board as president at Parker University two years ago, Dr. Morgan has been “a TCA guy.” He testified at hearings at the State Capitol, used his valuable connections to shine the light on our battles in Texas and galvanized the entire Parker community – students, faculty and alumni – to back TCA. Meanwhile, Dr. White is a son of a TCA Past President, Dr. Dale White Jr., so he has TCA in his blood. Dr. White has served the association well as chairman of our Legislative Affairs Committee and he’s contributed to our legislative successes in recent years. Finally, I want to thank our friends with the New York State Chiropractic Association, Drs. Anthony Palumbo and Joe Lezamiz, for traveling to Texas and telling your story at the gala. It pumps me up to see states like Texas and New York lifting each other up during tough times.

2) Chiro College Cup – The fourth edition of this academic competition between Parker University and Texas Chiropractic College lived up to the hype. After winning the 2017 Cup in a romp, Team Parker jumped out to another fast start before Team TCC caught fire in front of a boisterous crowd. After building its lead, TCC held off a late Parker rally for a 31-27 victory. As a TCC grad, I may be a little biased, but it was an exciting finish. Congratulations on your victory to TCC students Raven Atkins, Briana Hyde, Nathan Miller, Emily Plaza and Brittany Wooten! Nicely played by Parker’s team of Dayana Bucarello, Jake Mills, Hannah Stull, James Vlcek and Natalie Ware! With the series now tied at 2-2, next year’s Cup has a lot at stake. I can’t wait!

3) Meetings, Meetings, Meetings – It happened behind the scenes, but two TCA Board of Directors meetings and numerous committee meetings took place during Chiro Texpo ’18, with state leadership planning the next steps for our association and the profession. It was fun spending time with my chiropractic brothers and sisters. I must recognize my predecessor, Dr. Vige, for the example you set over the past year and my fellow Executive Officers, TCA Vice President Dr. Chad Carpenter and TCA Secretary/Treasurer Dr. Mo Jahadi. It’s an honor to serve next to you. I also want to acknowledge members of the TCA Board (including our 12 State Directors), Executive Committee and committee chairs for your sacrifice and commitment. One of my goals as TCA President is to build our bench and get more doctors across Texas involved at the district and state levels. Are you ready to step up? There’s always room for more volunteers.

As we turn the page on Chiro Texpo ’18, I want to acknowledge the TCA Education & Events Committee, which was chaired by Drs. Tucker Woods and Jose Simon. They worked hard to plan the conference, bringing in top-notch speakers like Drs. Tony Ebel, Danielle Eaton, Stu Hoffman, C.J. Mertz, Kristina Petrocco-Napuli, Dan Rowe, Margie Smith and Dan Sullivan. They welcome your suggestions to make Chiro Texpo ’19 even better.

I also want to give a shout-out to our sponsors and exhibitors; if you attended Chiro Texpo ’18, I hope you made time to visit these companies in the Texpo Hall. They spend thousands of dollars with TCA and they would love your business.

Lastly, I want to thank TCA members for allowing me to be your TCA President. It’s a privilege I don’t take lightly. The next year will be full of challenges, with much to do to get ready for the 2019 Texas Legislative Session. As you know, we had some significant wins in 2017 and we want to keep our momentum going. We may be calling on you to help out, so check your email, the TCA Facebook page, your mobile phone and the TCA website for the latest updates.

Looking forward to a record-breaking year for TCA and chiropractic in Texas!

Sincerely,

Devin Pettiet, DC
