F4CP has designated September as a month to help raise public awareness of non-pharmacologic pain management options such as chiropractic care.

Prescription opioid use and abuse that leads to addiction and catastrophic outcomes has become a national crisis. Unfortunately, Rx painkillers are often recommended for low back, neck and musculoskeletal pain management.

As part of the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress’ (F4CP) national opioid abuse campaign, Save Lives. Stop Opioid Abuse. Choose Chiropractic. – the F4CP has designated the month of September 2017 as “Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness Month.”

During this nationwide campaign, the F4CP raises public awareness of non-pharmacologic options -- such as chiropractic care -- to safely and effectively relieve acute, subacute and chronic pain. The campaign promotes chiropractic as the preferred first-line approach to avoid use of prescription pain killers. A month-long series of activities will provide education and information that:

  • Helps consumers to choose chiropractic care before taking prescription opioids;

  • Encourages physicians to refer patients to chiropractic care

  • Urges managed care organizations and health plans to reimburse doctors of chiropractic.

All activities are designed to promote the chiropractic profession and enhance local practices.

Your organization can support this campaign and enhance the positioning of your State Association by requesting that your local legislators sponsor a formal resolution commemorating the month of September 2017 as “Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness Month.”

We would urge that your organization plan for the month by enhancing the opioid abuse campaign with local activities to emphasize the important role of chiropractic care in the management of pain. Please consider requesting that your legislators and/or Governor sponsor a formal resolution that recognizes this awareness month.

Below are links to the suggested letter and resolution:

Also, consider notifying the media locally with letters to the editor from the State Association and individual doctors on the same theme. Once you have the Resolution, this will be a great opportunity to promote the campaign – print copies of the Resolution for display in your office and share with patients in the office or on social media.

We believe what we will do nationally combined with what you can do locally will create a major push with the public regarding this important mission to end opioid abuse and save lives.

If you need assistance customizing the letter and/or reaching out to your local legislators, we are here to assist. Please contact Marketing Director, Alexis Lignos, alexis@f4cp.com, with any questions regarding this activity.
