Patricia Gilbert, the new Executive Director of the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners reports: I appreciate the welcome that I have received from many of you. In 2016 the agency is going to focus on customer service, education and quality training for our licensees. It is very important to me and the staff that our licensees understand our rules and processes so they can focus their efforts on caring for the citizens of Texas.

The focus of our newsletters will be to give you timely information so that you can stay abreast of things happening in and around TBCE. The agency has four Board meetings throughout the year, so sending the newsletter after meetings will ensure that you get current updates on Board activities and initiatives. We will also publish additional issues with special topics of interest such as rule proposals for your comments, outreach and education.

On November 25, 2015, our new fee schedule, which lowered many of the fees paid by licensees, went into effect. These were lowered in addition to the $200 reduction in the licensure fee approved by the legislature (effective September 1, 2015). We believe that lowering fees when possible keeps us responsible as stewards of your money. Hopefully you have a current email address on file with us so we can contact you about special topics and information. “Just in time” communications are critical so that you will have what you need to stay in compliance with rules and regulations.

We are making improvements to our website, so check back from time to time (and open our e-mails) so you won’t miss important notices useful to you and your patients. We promise not to fill up your in-box! If there is anything you think would be helpful to add to our site or newsletter, please email and let us know.

By April of 2016, TBCE will be meeting with the Sunset Commission staff in preparation for the review. The purpose of a Sunset review is to look at the needs and performance of state agencies. Later in the year we will add information to our website and send e-mails to tell you how you can participate in this important process.

Again, thank you for the warm welcome. I look forward to working with you in 2016.

Future TBCE newsletters will be published after Board meetings which are typically held in February, May, August, and November.
